Solidarity Continues Financial Literacy Education at Taylor High School
Solidarity Community Federal Credit Union is proud to continue its partnership with Taylor High School by bringing another financial literacy class into the classroom. This session began at the start of the school year and focused on helping students build practical money skills they can use well beyond graduation.
Throughout the course, students explored the fundamentals of personal finance with an emphasis on real-life application and long-term confidence.
Real-World Money Skills for Real Life
The class covered essential financial topics designed to meet students where they are and prepare them for what’s ahead, including:
-
Understanding checking and savings accounts
-
Using debit cards and digital banking tools responsibly
-
The importance of saving early and how compound interest works
-
Credit basics, loans, and managing debt wisely
-
Recognizing scams, fraud, and costly financial mistakes
Lessons went beyond lectures. Students participated in hands-on activities like budgeting exercises, bill-paying simulations, and account management scenarios—giving them a chance to practice financial decision-making in a safe, supportive environment.
Building Confidence, One Student at a Time
Every class brings a different mix of experiences, and this group was no exception. Some students already had work experience or personal financial responsibilities, while others were just beginning to think about money and independence. Those differences sparked meaningful conversations and reinforced an important truth: financial education isn’t about a single path—it’s about equipping students with tools they can adapt to their own lives.
Celebrating Program Completion and Next Steps
Students who completed the course successfully were recognized for their commitment to learning. Several graduates took the next step by establishing accounts with Solidarity FCU, marking an important milestone as they begin managing their finances independently.
A Continued Commitment to Financial Education
Solidarity is grateful to Taylor High School for its continued collaboration and commitment to preparing students for life beyond the classroom. Financial literacy is a critical life skill, and we’re proud to support programs that empower students with knowledge, confidence, and opportunity.
At Solidarity Community Federal Credit Union, we believe education today builds stronger communities tomorrow.
