What’s Happening at Solidarity?!

Solidarity is taking debit card security to the next level with One-Time Passwords (OTP)

At Solidarity, your safety and peace of mind matter to us. That’s why, starting May 1, 2025, we’ll begin using One-Time Passwords (OTP) for certain higher-risk online card transactions. This added layer of protection is part of a cooperative effort with our card processor to ensure your online shopping experience stays simple and secure. When a transaction is flagged as higher risk, you’ll receive a One-Time Passcode via email and text using the contact information we have on file with your card profile. It’s important to keep your contact information up to date to ensure you receive your passcode without delay.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Why is Solidarity adding One-Time Passcodes (OTPs) to some online transactions?
Research shows that OTPs significantly reduce fraud and improve the member experience. Without OTP, high-risk transactions are often declined. With OTP, members can securely verify their identity and complete the transaction directly on the merchant’s site or app.

What happens without OTP?

  • High-risk purchases may be declined, causing frustration and missed opportunities.
  • Lower authentication success can increase fraud and reduce member confidence.

What are the benefits of OTP at Solidarity?

  • Secure & Simple: Quickly verify your purchase—no need to call or wait.
  • Reduced Fraud: Credit unions using OTP have seen up to 60% fewer fraud losses.
  • Industry-Aligned: Follows best practices in fraud prevention and member security.
  • Fewer Declines: Legitimate transactions go through more smoothly, with less support needed.

Can members opt out?
No. Because OTP is a required security measure, opting out is not available.

🪪IDCheck for Shared Branching

Solidarity Community Federal Credit Union understands the crucial need to protect you from account takeover fraud. That’s why we are introducing a new ID proofing measure for in-person use for our Shared Branching members. This new fraud prevention measure allows us to ensure it is YOU trying to access your account, not an imposter.

If you bank at one of our Shared Branch locations, a teller can now identify and authenticate members with out-of-state IDs in the branch through a QR code and one-time passcode multi-factor authentication verification. The one-time password is only required for withdrawals (cash or check) where out-of-state IDs are presented. However, Credit Unions can utilize for additional transactions at their discretion, so keep that in mind if you’re utilizing an institution besides Solidarity.

How it Works: (REMINDER! This does not go into effect until May 1, 2025)

  1. Scan the QR code located in the branch or visit coop.org.
  2. Select your credit union’s name from a drop-down list.
  3. Enter your member number and the last four digits of your social security number.
  4. Upload a photo of your ID.
  5. Take a selfie.
  6. Show your one-time passcode to the teller (passcode is valid for 20 minutes).

Tip: Save your validation for an even quicker experience next time!

🔐 Shared Branching ID Check – FAQs

  1. Why do I need to show my ID for a shared branching transaction?
To protect your account and prevent fraud. It’s a nationwide security requirement for all credit unions in the shared branching network.
  2. I’m a Solidarity member—why do you need my ID?
Even if you’re a member, when you’re using shared branching services, we follow standardized procedures to verify identity, just like any other participating credit union would.
  3. Can I use a digital ID or app-based ID?
Most branches require a physical, government-issued photo ID. Some may accept a digital ID, but it’s best to bring a physical one to avoid delays.
  4. I’ve done this before without ID—what changed?
Shared branching policies are regularly updated to enhance security. ID verification is now a standard part of every transaction.
  5. What types of IDs are accepted with IDCheck?
A valid driver’s license, state ID, or passport is accepted. The ID must be current and show your photo.
